In 2056 Earth is involved in war with an alien race called the "Hing".
After 6 years a truce is called.
The Hing keep the land that they have captured, including city called "Archangel"
(According to the description
of this episode on official MGM site "The Outer Limits"
it is "the neutral city of Archangel on the Barent Sea". I think, it was meant the Russian
city of Archangelsk. This city - the seaport is close a geographic area of the Barents Sea, but it's actually
on the White Sea, bounded by Barents Sea. But this place from the episode is unlike this
ancient and one of the proudest cities of Russia.)
In the city the Russian
internal security forces together with the aliens maintain peace and order.
The Russian were dressed
outdated uniform. It is not clear, why the Russian officers have dressed so archaic uniform
(about the 30th of
our century) in the 21 century.
Still fighting the war is a group led by Cass Trenton (Angeline Ball) - she has a Hing parasite in her blood, which is deadly to the Hing and she must get it to the free world so that it can be turned into a weapon. She and her team member contact the local resistance to try and obtain transport to the US.
Derek plays as the chief of the Hing aliens group called High Centurion Sulat Ray. He find out in a wood of the alien, perishing from a virus and understands, that the host of a Hing parasite somewhere in city.
Cass goes in bar called "Heaven" and meets her old lover, who she thought had been killed in the war, Michael Ryan (Nathan Fillion). Now he is a smash businessman, who now runs this coffee bar and music club.
The Russian local female colonel called Alex (She is played the Russian actress speaking with a strong accent. In the credits of this episode on official MGM site "The Outer Limits" her character called "Alexandra Nevsky". It's amusing. Alexandr Nevsky is numbered among the greatest captains of Russia.) is trying to maintain an uneasy truce with the Hing, but things are especially difficult because they are aware that the parasites host is somewhere in the city. Alex and Sulat Ray think Michael is involved in the black market and the resistance. He claims to be neutral but they do not believe him. They suspect that he will be contacted to help the others escape using a stolen Hing aircraft. Either he will either turn the resistance fighters over to the Hing for money or will try and help them. Either way Sulat Ray hope to use him to catch the resistance group. Alex tries to warn Michael to be careful of the Hing.
Cass finally convinces Michael to help her and her colleague to escape. He leads them to the stolen aircraft, but they have been followed by Sulat Ray, Teresita Arboleda (Robbi Cong) and the Russian colonel Alex and fire-fight ensues. When Cass is wounded, Michel takes the gun and dents the Hing with bullets, including killing Sulat Ray and Teresita whilst the others escape. The Russian colonel Alex decides to leave with Michael and join NATO forces to continue the battle to free the earth.
Derek played the very severe and spiteful alien, but sometimes he charmingly gives a wink and it was not brutal aliens, and lovely, good human.
Itís nothing to be surprised about the Russians sided with enemies of Earth in the American series, though it is very unpleasant. There are offensive things about Russians in the description of this episode on official MGM site "The Outer Limits". In the Russian movies and TV we make never the Americans of a bad kind. Itís nothing to be surprised about Russian officers were dressed in archaic uniform. In America they think, that in Russia time stood somewhere in 1937. Itís nothing to be surprised about the alien is played by the foreigner (the Dutch). But I irritate last scene. If the aliens managed to win the Earth, why they could not win a shoot out with one human? They were in a wood and could hide behind trees, and one human with a fossil gun was on open space. At least they could dress a body armour.
