Born As: Harold Rowe Holbrook, Jr.

Abandoned by his parents at the age of two, he was raised by relatives. He came to New York in the late 50s via San Francisco's Purple Onion club, and after performing at a Greenwich Village nightclub and appearing in a daytime TV soap opera he became an overnight hit off Broadway with his one-man show Mark Twain Tonight! Over the years, he has portrayed the humorist on the stage some 2,000 times, to much acclaim both in the US and abroad. He has also performed with distinction in many Broadway and Lincoln Center Repertory productions and in many TV specials, but his film appearances, mostly in character roles, have been sporadic.
