It was a black Monday for Inni Wintrop, who was enriched by commerce in
successful speculation and trade in objets d'art and female jewelry. On the
twenty-eighth of October 1987 came the crash in the Amsterdam Stock
Exchange. He had lost his money. Misfortunes never come alone. His wife,
black belle Zita, "Princess of Namibia", had left him for a photographer. He
doted on his wife.
He antiqued, trading on trivialities. Coming back from one shop, Inni walked along the street. A young, nice girl bicycled and stole a curious look at him. Unexpectedly she stood in his way, and he saw on the sidewalk a dead pigeon near her bicycle. He wanted to throw the small body on the scrap- heap, but the girl protested. Then he striped her of the bicycle and they went to a park together and buried the pigeon under a tree. Then Inni and girl came to her home and had sex...
In one of antiquarian shops, Inni saw a strange young man. He bought a very
expensive ancient drinking-cup. The owner of the shop called his name:
"Taads". The name came back to Wintrop. Arnold Taads was an old friend of
their family in Brabant. "It is my father", - the young man said. This name
called up scenes of Inni's youth. He and Philip Taads went to his home.
There was strange room without furniture. They sat down and recollected.
Derek de Lint in this film is a businessman of ripe age and also a young boy. He looked enchanting. Here he put in an appearance completely naked without turning an eyelash again.
