To PTL Fans:

On April 18th, I received a long distance phone call from a representative of Michelin Group, one of the "Poltergeist; the Legacy" sponsors. Andy Dee, of Michelin Commercial Relations, was asked to call SciFi to discuss the cancellation of PTL and then get back to me by the Michelin Group president. I have reported the following conversation with Andy Dee to the best of my ability (but since it was not recorded, any mistakes or misunderstandings are strictly my own and do not reflect upon Andy Dee. Bearing that fact in mind, here is what Mr. Dee told me):

Andy Dee asked SciFi why PTL was cancelled and they told him in effect (nicely) that they did not try to tell Michelin how to sell their product and that Michelin should not try to tell SciFi how to conduct their business. SciFi also stated that the decision to cancel PTL was based upon "research results", but declined to elaborate as to how they obtained them. SciFi stated that, at the present time, they have no plans to reinstate PTL on the SciFi Channel, so Andy then queried SciFi how fans could best influence SciFi and they stated that fans should contact SciFi directly.

In my humble opinion, fans should continue to email, write and otherwise rub SciFi's nose in their unfortunate mistake (nicely!) As the response I received from Michelin clearly shows, it pays to continue to contact sponsors, too. (SciFi might not want to be bothered or respond to fans of a show they have cancelled, but a call from a sponsor still makes an impression.) Michelin Group is, obviously, a company that cares about both its customers and the programs it sponsors. They deserve alot of credit for their caring attitude. Michelin - the King of Sponsors!
