The film stars Derek de Lint as a teacher of a history Paul de Wit. It seems, he is lucky man, has the beautiful
wife and two fine daughters. But during WWII his Jews parents were deported and were killed in a Nazi
death camp. He has grown in the non-Jewish family and for long time he did not know, who he is by
birth. Then Paul met a woman, who was midwife his mother. She has told to him, that he had twin
brother, who was together with his parents, but officially his death was not fixed in papers. He feels
unhappy about this story and begins to write a book about historical seguence of French revolution about
unsuccessful escape of Louis XVI and his wife Marie-Antoinette in Varennes. Paul imagenes: as though
was further history if this escape would be successful. He goes off in Paris to do some research for his
book and in hotel, where he has gone to be photographed on the documents, to get acquainted with
Zionist Nadine with whom he begins an affair. Nadine reveres the Jews religious and cultural
traditions, as it were done by her father, grandfather. "Traditions will not explain, you follow
traditions, because they were followed by your parents ", - speaks Nadine. But Paul knows the
parents only by the words of the midwife, therefore he is alien to their culture and religion. When he
comes in Jews synagogue, he wanders in a circle as a embarrassed tourist. When Paul comes back in
Amsterdam after the trip to Paris, he brings his photo, where he was together with Nadine. Suddenly
he finds out on a background of the photo the man in glasses very similar to him. He thinks, that it is
his twin brother. Paul begins looking for him. But the existence of his brother becomes everyone is more
problematic. Paul begins to dream of brother and imagines his trip to Southern France. And there he
meets his brother, whos name is not de Wit, but Nathan Blum. Paul going mad.
